Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Tracy Chevalier, bestselling author of The Last Runaway and Girl with a Pearl Earring returns to Hudson for an intimate engagement at Case-Barlow Farm (1931 Barlow Road Hudson, OH). This event is open to the public; tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Learned Owl Book Shop (204 N. Main Street, Hudson). All proceeds from the ticket sales will go directly to Case Barlow Farm in an effort to rebuild the barn. Included in the cost of the ticket is an in depth discussion with Chevalier about her research methods, light refreshments, and tours of the farm house.

Conference events will take place in Clark Hall (11130 Bellflower Road) and Guilford House (11112 Bellflower Road) on the Case Western Reserve University campus.
In her keynote address: Closer Than You Think: Thoughts on Genre Bending, Blending and Plain-Old Jumping Ship, Ohio author Paula McLain will discuss her experience writing and publishing across genres, the unique challenges and pleasures of working within and without boundaries, and the remarkable things that can happen when you stop thinking you're a poet, memoirist, or novelist, and start acting like a writer.

Cuyahoga County Public Library's free summer writing workshops will explore a variety of genres and techniques. Meet published writers hosted by the Library, ask questions about their craft and get a book signed! The first workshop, Real Life Into Story: A Workshop in Essay and Memoir, is a 10-week series that will be held on Saturdays beginning June 1, 2013, 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Registration is required for each workshop. Restore Cleveland Hope, Inc. is having a Walkathon on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Register online or on the day of the event. The 3-mile Walk for Hope begins at 9:00 a.m. Day of Event Registration is from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus, Ohio will play host to the Seventh Annual Ohioana Book Festival. Meet more than 100 Ohio authors, have books signed, attend panel discussions, try some of the crafts and activities in the children’s area, eat at one (or more) of the award-winning local food carts, listen to some great music, and take in all the amazing literature Ohio has to offer!
This year's featured authors include Ellis Avery, Carla Buckley, Rae Carson, Bob Hunter, Daniel Kirk, Robert Olmstead, Raul Ramos y Sanchez, Emilie Richards, P. Craig Russell, and Sharon Short.

A total of 1,360 entries from Ohio were submitted to the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress during the 2012-2013 Letters About Literature contest. Out of the 835 Level I (grades 4-6) letters that had been received, 77 were ultimately sent to the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library for evaluation. Out of the 443 Level II (grades 7-8) letters that had been submitted, 49 were mailed to the Ohio Center for the Book for judging purposes. From out of a total of 82 Level III (grades 9-10), 22 had been selected by the Library of Congress staff and delivered to the Ohio judges for consideration. Out of each of the three levels, the judges selected 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners as well as four Semifinalists. The panel of volunteers who served as judges this year were:

- John Skrtic, Director of Public Relations, Cleveland Public Library
- Annisha Jeffries, Manager, Youth Services Department, Cleveland Public Library

The Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library is proud to present Ohio Poem in Your Pocket Day.
Thursday, April 18, 2013, is National Poem in Your Pocket Day. We have produced pocket-sized poems by a variety of Ohio poets for you to carry with you and share with your family, friends, and co-workers. View and print off poems by Mary Biddinger, George Bilgere, John Drury, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Kathy Fagan, Nikki Giovanni, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Matt Hart, Dave Lucas, Philip Metres, and Mary Weems. Poems will also be available at all Cleveland Public Library locations.
On Ohio Poem in Your Pocket Day, Thursday, April 18, 2013, join us as we besprinkle downtown Cleveland with poetry. Meet in the Literature Department of Cleveland Public Library at 11:45 a.m. to receive a packet of poems. Teams will pour onto the streets of downtown Cleveland, passing out poems at popular gathering places.

Celebrate National Poetry Month with us! The Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library is hosting an open mic poetry featuring Mary Weems. Join us at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The reading will take place in the Literature Department of Cleveland Public Library's Main Library.
Mary Weems is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education and Allied Studies at John Carroll University. Dr. Weems has penned books, plays, and poetry. Her poetry credits include five chapbooks, most notably White and Tampon Class, and two books of poems: An Unmistakable Shade of Red and the Obama Chronicles and For(e)closure.
