Dmitry Bykov, one of Russia's most prominent and admired writers, visits Northeast Ohio on Friday, March 30, 2012, 7:30 pm, at Forest Hill Church, 3031 Monticello Blvd., Cleveland Heights. The event will be in Russian and tickets are $30.00. 
Dmitry Bykov is one of the most remarkable figures of modern Russian literary life, and one of Russia's most prominent and admired writers and public intellectuals. He is a writer, poet, journalist, critic, TV host, and biographer. In recent years, he has won 11 literary awards.
Dmitry Bykov has published five novels and six books of poetry, as well as three books of articles and fairy tales. He is the author of essays, literary and polemical articles that were published in numerous journals and newspapers.
His biography of Boris Pasternak earned Bykov the 2006 National Bestseller (Russian : Национальный бестселлер ) and Great Book (Russian : Большая Книга ) awards. He later wrote biographies of Maksim Gorky and Bulat Okudzhava .

Ed Young, Caldecott Medalist and author of many award-winning books for children, is the 2012 winner of the Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography Award for his stunning autobiography, The House Baba Built: An Artist’s Childhood in China as told to Libby Koponen.
The Sugarman Award is given biennially by the Cleveland Public Library to honor excellence in the field of biography for children. These books embody the mandated Sugarman award criteria—that titles be selected for age-appropriateness, writing quality and biographical subject matter ‘worthy of emulation.’
Additionally, two Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography Honor Awards have been selected for 2012: Larry Dane Brimner's Black and White: The Confrontation Between Reverend Fred L. Shuttleworth And Eugene “Bull” Connor and Harry Houdini: The Legend of the World’s Greatest Escape Artist by Janice Weaver.
A reception and ceremony will be held at Cleveland Public Library on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

The 2012 Edible Books Festival is coming and the only rule is to make edible art that has something to do with books. The festivel will be held April 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm and will feature prize categories for Most Literary, Most Appetizing, Most Book-Like and Most-Creative. The fee is $3 which covers voting and eating. Yum!
The International Edible Books Festival started in 2000 and has been gaining popularity each year. April 1st is the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), famous for his book Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food. Loganberry Books and Strong Bindery have sponsored the Cleveland event since 2004, and give out hand-made miniature book pins to all contest entrants and book awards to contest winners. On Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 10 a.m., a panel of writers and illustrators of children's books will discuss their work and share their knowledge at the Hudson Library & Historical Society. The panel will include Peninsula picture book author and illustrator, Lindsay Ward, middle grade author Tricia Springstubb and representatives from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Also on Saturday, the Ohio Author Book Fair will run 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Over 30 authors, all Buckeyes, will gather in the Flood Family meeting room with Teen and Children’s book authors and illustrators in the rotunda. Patrons will have an opportunity to talk about books and writing, and mingle among the literary literati. A variety of fiction, nonfiction and poetry writers will be present.
